Lactation Consultant Orlando In-home Breastfeeding Help FreeOur In-home Lactation Consultations are ideal for lactating parents who are experiencing challenges with breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and/or pumping and would like extensive, in-person assistance with all their breastfeeding related challenges.

We recommend in-home lactation visits when:

  • The Lactating Parent is experiencing pain while breastfeeding
  • The Lactating Parent is struggling with positioning
  • The Child is not latching correctly
  • The Child is not staying awake to take a full feeding
  • The Lactating Parent is concerned about milk supply
  • The Lactating Parent has questions about how often or how long to breastfeed/express milk/bottlefeed
  • The Lactating Parent is experiencing flu like symptoms in addition to breast/chest soreness and fatigue
  • The Child has lost more than 10% of their birth weight
  • The Child is not having enough wet or dirty diapers
  • The Child has not regained their birth weight by 2 weeks
  • The Lactating Parent is being encouraged to supplement with infant/toddler formula
  • The Child is refusing to feed at the breast/chest (either on one side or both)
  • The Child is refusing to take a bottle (will not feed unless at the breast/chest)
  • The Lactating Parent is concerned about milk supply when expressing (i.e. when using an electric/manual breast pump or hand-expressing)
  • The Lactating Parent has noticed their nipples are misshapen or very sensitive after breastfeeding/chestfeeding, or expressing milk
  • The Child is having excessive gas or spit up
  • The Lactating Parent is breastfeeding/chestfeeding with a nipple shield and needs help weaning from the nipple shield
  • The Lactating Parent is supplementing with infant/toddler formula and needs help weaning from supplements
  • The Lactating Parent is experiencing breast/chest engorgement lasting more than 2 days
  • The Lactating Parent is struggling emotionally and feels discouraged or ready to “throw in the towel”
  • Parent(s) suspect The Child has Tongue Tie, Lip Tie, or Buccal Tie 
  • Parent(s) feel lost/overwhelmed and need guidance/reassurance/a Success Plan

Lactation consultants and counselors are a Lactating Parent’s (aka Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding/Exclusively Pumping Mother’s or Father’s) BEST hope for solving issues with breastfeeding/chestfeeding/exclusively pumping, regaining hope and confidence, and successfully reaching the breastfeeding/chestfeeding goals they have set for themselves/their family. Lactation consultants are specialists in troubleshooting problems with breastfeeding/chestfeeding/exclusively pumping/bottle feeding, optimal infant and toddler nutrition, and counseling lactating parents. We do this work because we LOVE moms/dads and babies and want nothing more than to see every mother/father succeed in reaching their OWN breastfeeding/chestfeeding/milk expression/overall feeding goals. A lactation consultant should NEVER make a parent feel “silly,” judged or misunderstood.

Lactation consultations are held in the privacy of your own home and can be scheduled at a time that is convenient for you. All lactation consultations are with either an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and allow as much time is needed (up to 2 hours) for latch assessment, help with positioning, observation of a feeding, a pre- and post-feeding weight check, troubleshooting of any breastfeeding/chestfeeding, expressing/pumping,  bottle feeding issues, and an opportunity to get all of your breastfeeding/chestfeeding, bottle feeding and expressing/pumping questions answered.

What’s included:

  • *Up to* 2 hours with your lactation consultant (visits lasting longer than 1 hour will be billed at a rate of $37.50 per 1/4 hour). e.g. A 90-minute appointment will be billed at $225.00
  • Infant/toddler latch assessment and counseling to ensure a good latch
  • Positioning help and recommendations for optimal positioning
  • Observation of a full feeding (your lactation consultant will talk you through everything she is seeing and teach YOU what to be looking for)
  • Weight check (before and after a feeding) *weight checks are performed using an electronic pediatric scale for improved accuracy and will provide you with important information about milk supply and your child’s ability to transfer milk at the breast/chest or while bottle feeding
  • Assessment of baby/toddler’s milk transfer and discussion surrounding adequacy of milk intake
  • Recommendations to improve milk transfer, efficiency, and comfort
  • Weight history review
  • Assessment of milk supply and help with achieving an optimal supply
  • Advanced troubleshooting of breastfeeding/chestfeeding, bottle feeding, and/or milk expression or pumping issues
  • Answers to any questions or concerns you may have about breastfeeding/chestfeeding, bottle feeding, and/or expressing/pumping

At the conclusion of your visit, your lactation consultant will go over everything that was discussed and ensure all of your questions and concerns were addressed. Next, your lactation consultant will collaborate with you/your support team to prepare your Breastfeeding Care Plan and review any notes from your visit. When appropriate, referrals may be made.

In-home Lactation Consultations can be scheduled Monday – Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm and on Saturdays between the hours of 8:00am and 12:00pm. Please choose a time when your child(ren) will likely be ready for a feeding to allow for an assessment of latch and observation of a feeding (whether at the breast/chest or via bottle or other supplemental feeding system/tool).

Price:

  • $150.00 (an additional $25.00 travel fee applies to visits in St. John’s, Polk, and Osceola counties).
  • We accept all: United Healthcare, UMR, Golden Rule commercial plans, Cigna, and most Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and Florida Blue PPO plans.

If you feel you need more time to discuss or have a lot of questions, your lactation consultant can stay up to 2 hours to be sure you are comfortable and all your questions have been addressed. Visits lasting longer than the original time allotted (1 hour) will be billed at a rate of $37.50 per 1/4 hour.
